Effect of Light , Sucrose , and Growth Regulators on the Coloration of Cut Snapdragon Flower

Abstract
The effects of various artificial lamps (blue, red, warm white, cool white, growth fluorescent lamp and incandescent lamp) with different wavelength and growth regulators (Ethephon, Uniconazole, BA, IAA, ABA and GA) were examined to clarify the most effective artificial lamp and growth regulator treatment for preventing the poor coloration of florets occurring during the transportation or under low light intensity at consumption stage of cut snapdragon.
1. The anthocyanin content in florets was high under the growth fluorescent lamp and blue one, but low under the red one and incandescent lamp.
2. The anthocyanin contents in florets were decreased by GA, IAA treatments, especially at higher GA concentrations. It tended to .be slightly increased at low concentration (0.1 - 1 ppm) of BA, ABA, Bthephon and Uniconazole treatments.
3. When the sucrose were added to the preservation solution, the contents of anthocyanin were increased a greater or less degree under all light treatments.
4. The florets having better color value measured by color computer showed higher anthocyanin content.
5. Therefore it is concluded that the most effective artificial light for good coloration of cut snapdragon was the fluorescent lamp having wavelengths of around 470§¬ and/or 600§¬.
